Thank you thank you thank you ladies!

All 12 Blocks done for Oriental Swap

Yippie! I finished all 12 of my blocks for the Oriental Block swap. I think that I've fallen in love with Kona solids. They're so nice to work with even after they've been pre-washed. All of my 12 look just like this. I hope the other participants in the swap love them as much as I do.

Week 4 - Lighthouse Quilt Top Done

Here's my top for Week 4 - Lighthouse. :)
It's a scrap buster. The top is done, just need to get some batting small enough to quilt it. I don't feel like opening up a queen size package of batting to cut a square out. But I'll soon be quilting a larger quilt so I'll have scraps soon.

I'm happy with it. Forgot how long I've actually had that lighthouse fabric, and I forgot how long those stars have been in my stash. I'm happy. :)

More Swap Blocks

Last night I made 4 more blocks for the Boomerang Besties.

Here they are:
For DonnaDrum:
She sent the dark black fabric with the flowers. I wanted to use lighter colors to pull the colors in the flowers out. I'm happy with how it turned out, hope she likes it!

For Navarre2011:

She sent the grey/blue/white fabric, and just like ChiggerHollerQuilter's block, I wanted to showcase as much of it as I could. So I used Quilters Cache block "Square Upon Square". I used a mottled/speckled grey for the corners. I'm really loving this block.

For ChiggerHollerQuilter:
She sent the gorgeous bird fabric, and I didn't know how to showcase it, so I used the Quilters Cache block "Square upon Square" and fussy cut the birds. I'm thrilled with how it turned out. Hope she likes it.

For Bookworm:
She sent the flame fabric. I added the Alexander Henry skull fabric.

And of course, who am I to turn down another swap? I needed to join another one.. cos yea.. but it's a FUNKY CHICKEN swap!! Last night we ordered Chinese food for dinner, and I was inspired for my first chicken.

Here is Kung Pow Chicken:
I still have to applique him / her? down to the backing, but I love this one. So much so, I made an extra for me to keep.

And here is "Dot's Mi Chick":

More Boomerang Blocks

This one I sent to OK Darla. She sent the blue fabric and requested a white on white fabric for the one that I added.

This is the one I sent to Nurse Bonnie:

And I received this block from moonrise:

I sent the black, white and red fabric. Originally I purchased the fabric for my friend for a wedding quilt. Unfortunately, she and her fiance split up and I had all the fabric purchased. Since it's not really my "thing" and my friend will be moving into her very first apartment in April or May, I figured that the fabric could still get used. Perhaps it's not for the original purpose, but at least she'll get a "new home" gift, just not a wedding quilt.

And I received 2 more F8's that I get to play with! YAY!

Boomerang 4.0 received from JudyG and Kits Purchased

Ohh this is beautiful. I love it. Received it back from JudyG.

Plus I received F8's from:
Navarre2011
rejenea
ksea
goldendog55

Can't wait to make something for them! I'm inspired by the range of fabrics that I've received.

I also bought 2 kits from Connecting Threads and I've officially fallen in love.

This one is called Starry Splendor from Connecting Threads, and it is so beautiful. I bought it to make for a couple friend of my husband and mine. They live in a log cabin (really!) and this will go perfectly with their decor. This is supposed to be a Christmas 2011 project. I'm not going to mention anything to them in case I can't get it done.

And I also bought this kit. It's on clearance. For $35 the price can't be beat! I'm in love with this quilt, and already started cutting out the fabric to make it.

Calorie Free Chocolate - AAQI Donation Quilt

Here's the first of my miniature quilts for the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative for 2011. I made it in honor of my husbands grandmother who passed away in December 2008 from Alzheimer's. She loved her chocolate all the way up to the end.

I love chocolate too, but since I've been losing weight (48 pounds since March 2010!) I don't want too much around my house or else I'll eat it all. I made a twin of this quilt for me to keep and hang on my wall.

Can you join the pledge too? Make a miniature quilt a month for the AAQI and donate it to them? Here's the link to join the Quilt a Month Club at the AAQI! I've pledged.. why won't you? It's only a miniature quilt, 9x12 or smaller!! Get stitching!

Boomerang Block Swap. 4 done. 31 to go.

Holy smokes. I'm inundated with fabric, and I'm in HEAVEN. The Boomerang Swap is in it's 4th version, and this is the first one that I've got the time to participate in. In case anyone doesn't know what the Boomerang is, there are 36 people in a group. Each person sends a Fat Eighth (F8 from now on cos I'm too lazy to type it out) to every other member in the group - so 35 total. Each of the 35 members takes that F8 and makes a 12.5x12.5 block using the fabric you sent, and any other fabric they want. We aren't allowed to specify a block. This is a total friendship swap. I've gotten 2 grown up blocks back and I've got 5 to send out on Tuesday because of the postal holiday on Monday.

These are the ones I've received:
From Buddy'sMom:

From JaneCat:

These are the ones that I've sent out:
For JudyG:

For buddy'smom:

Did YOU take the challenge?

I just found the perfect way to use the miniature quilts that I'm making here.

I truly support the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative and will do my very best to support the fight against Alzheimer's. From here on out, I pledge that ONE of my quilts during this challenge will be donated to the Quilt A Month Club at AAQI..

Since I just started this blog, I'll soon be linked over here.

Please join me in the fight against Alzheimer's!

Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year Everyone!!

Week 1:Jan 1-7, 2011

My theme for this weeks miniature quilt will be NEW. :) Anything goes, as long as I can justify the theme of new. I'm still not 100% sure what I'll be making, but that's OK!

My "guidelines" if anyone wants to play along with me:
1.) I'm only making a miniature quilt - anything smaller than 24x24 will count.
2.) Any style is accepted, applique, fusible, traditional pieced, whatever.
3.) Have fun.

I will try to make as many of these miniatures measuring 9x12 inches so that they can become a Priority Alzheimer's Quilt. If you don't know what the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative is, please go to their website and check out this super worthy cause!
