Week 31: July 31 - Aug 6, 2011

Last year I learned how to paper piece. I'm not an expert by any means, but I do love how accurate it is for points. Everything matches and there's no worries about how things are going to turn out. Just have to remember to reverse the image.

This weeks challenge is to PAPER PIECE a miniature. Anything goes as long as there's some paper piecing.

Week 30: 24-30 July

Don't have too much time to post today, so I'm going to make this one short and sweet. :) Here's the next theme...

THEME for WEEK 30: ROOTS

What do ROOTS mean to you?

Week 29: 17-23 July 2011

This will be another one for the AAQI. Hopefully there will be a lot of interest in this miniature quilt and that it'll raise a lot of money for the AAQI.

I've had this idea for a long time, and I hope I can get it out of my head and onto fabric easily. The idea is to make an INTERACTIVE quilt. Maybe yours will have moving parts, or maybe something that you can change, or maybe it's an I Spy quilt that people have to look at. Is it an optical illusion?

What will your INTERACTIVE quilt be?

4 Boom Blocks Mailed Today

And these 4 were mailed today. So now, I'm only missing 2 ladies fabrics, 70-2=68. And I've mailed out: 24 = 44 more to go. Of that 44, 2 are going to be made from me, so only 42 more to go. And I have 6 more blocks prepped, just have to sew the final seams in them and those will go out tomorrow. :D I'm aiming for all of them to be mailed out by August 1st.

This one is for Cyndi H. I loved her fabric which was the blue and flowery print. I searched high and low in my stash and found the orange with brown swirls and thought it worked super. I can only hope she likes it as much as I do.

This one is for Havplenty. She sent the fun and funky fabric. In her note to me she asked for no orange, red, brown or hot pink (that was my first instinct - hot pink) but as this is for her I had to follow her instructions. I hope she likes it. The block is called Shoo Fly.

These next two are for Paintmejudy. She's in 2 groups with me. The bird fabric was hers, and she asked for medium to dark tonals, no whites. My instincts were all screaming to put a white on white with it, but she didn't want it, so I didn't. Still think it would have looked awesome. And the other fabric she sent was the plain brown. She wanted blues with it, so that I could easily do. :)

Week 28: 10-16 July 2011

Phew.. after last week, I want something easier this week. Lets go with a less abstract theme this time around. One of my favorite things to do in the summer is to go fishing. My father loved fishing, and my mother still does. My grandfather was an avid fisherman who enjoyed deep sea fishing.

Without further discussion, now presenting this weeks THEME: FISHING.

Lets make a miniature quilt with a fish or something to do with fishing. :)

No, I'm not hexagon obsessed, really.. more 3/8" and 1" sided hexies

Yep, I'm on a roll with hexagons. I'm obsessed, really I am. I've got 4 pencil cases full of hexies, and 6 of those craft containers with dividers full of basted hexagons.

DH just found out that he is sent to Boston for 4 days and I'm going along with him and our DD. So I figure that the car drive up to Boston will be a great time to put them together.

I have 600 of the 3/8" hexies basted and about half of them are in flowers - and those flowers are currently in the room past my DD's (and she's sleeping now!! a rare feat) so I'm not going any where near her room lest I disturb her.

In case anyone wants to know, I'm being eco-friendly. All my hexagon templates are cut from a plastic template that I made, then trace that template on cereal boxes and Smart Ones boxes.

These are 2 of the 3/8" hexagon flowers.

I have a whole bunch of these hexies basted - this is just one small handful.

Here are some of the larger flowers. They do have a center, and at the time of the picture, they didn't, but they do now.

And here's ONE of the craft/pencil boxes. Both of the sides are full of basted hexies, the two centers have some of the cardboard templates in it. And I still have 3 more cereal boxes ready to cut up.

174 Days till Christmas

Holy smokes! I just realized that there are only 174 days left until Christmas. Now all I need to do is come up with a Christmas list of what to make for everyone! Oh no!

And I've got a wedding quilt to make by September, and another one for April 2012. I'm going to be one very busy bee.

Christmas list so far:
Mom, Grandma, DD, DH, Cousin, Aunt, Niece, BIL, SIL, MIL, FIL, DBF (dear best friend), great friend and her DH.

Not counting the other 10 people that I work with and we do a secret Santa exchange.

Week 27: July 3-9, 2011

My Daddy always used to say that you'd never truly know a person until you walked a mile in their moccasins (shoes).
My mom still says, "Whatever."
My aunt says, "Que Sera, Sera."

This week, I want to challenge myself to base a miniature quilt around a QUOTE. The second part of this challenge is to make this one for the AAQI. So make it 9" x 12" at the biggest size. Won't you join me in making and donating yours?

Here are some links to find a quote that inspires you to make a miniature quilt.
