Who says that you can't try something new every week? Or try something that you're not sure you're good at? That's why I'm trying these miniature quilts - to practice and hone my skills. I'm not perfect, but I'm going to try to keep getting better. Every little bit helps.
I'm working on my Dear Jane quilt, and must say that I started out hating applique, but I'm slowly getting better with it. I'm not sure that I'll ever have the patience to do a Baltimore Album quilt, but slowly I'm liking applique better.
This weeks theme is APPLIQUE. The mini quilt has to have applique somewhere on it. It can be all applique or just a little bit. Do what you feel comfortable doing!

Week 18: May 1-7, 2011
One of my all time favorite blocks is the Dresden Plate. It's not a really tough block once you get the hang of making it. I love them all, curved blades, pointed, round. They're just so much fun.
THEME: Dresden Plate.
If you've never made one before, I have to warn you - they're totally addictive, and they'll be absolutely gorgeous as a table topper, or table runner.
Here are a few links to free Dresden Plate patterns. I'm always looking for them!

Week 17: April 24-30, 2011
Lets get fancy this week. Kick it up a notch and use things that we typically wouldn't! If you've ever wanted to try a crazy quilt, this might be great for a miniature. Pull out the lace, pull out embroidery stitches, pull out the fancy fabrics that I know you've been hoarding for that 'special' or 'perfect' project. Hopefully this is a special enough project.

Week 16: April 17-23, 2011
I'm celebrating SPRING this week. :) One of my favorite activities when I was little was to fly a kite, and I'm trying to get my daughter into it too. She does like to be outside and play. We plan on making our own kites soon. Just now waiting for the "perfect" day to go fly a kite.
Lets go fly a KITE and send it SOARING, up to the atmosphere, up where the air is clear, lets go FLY A KITE!

Hexagon Obsessed.. Honest
I am so obsessed with Hexagons. They're taking over. Literally. But, I've finally found a use for a jelly roll that I've had for over a year. And I've been using my scraps up for a scrappy GFG quilt. I'm also going to be making a GFG with the Odyssea jelly roll.
They're really portable, and I just LOVE hexies. Maybe a swap in the works? oh.. now that would feed my obsession.

Week 15: April 10-16, 2011
Was folding some scraps of fabric the other day, and decided to sort them by themes. I found a bunch of music notes, musical instruments and other things that pertain to music. Can you guess what this weeks theme is??
Theme: Face the Music. Anything that has to do with music.
Special Challenge: Make it a Priority Alzheimers Quilt - 9x12 or smaller. Then donate it to the AAQI.
If you make one and donate it, and blog about it, please leave a comment and you never know.. there might just be a prize coming from me. I'll pick one lucky winner by June 1st. When your donated mini goes up on the AAQI page with a picture, please post a link in the comment section here by June 1st, and I'll include your name in my giveaway.

Week 14 - April 2-9, 2011
Lets go with another fun one this week. I want to try all sorts of different colors and only from my stash. Nothing new purchased for this week, so it's like a double challenge.
